Electronic Medical Record Conversion
Conversion of patient’s medical record to electronic medical records started in the year 2000. The process of converting these patients’s physical record to electronic medical record or EMR is very intensive and complicated.
Physical records are manually handwritten records of different healthcare professionals through out a patient’s life span. These physical records come in different format, files, fonts, and different styles of penmanship. This is what makes the conversion to electronic medical record complicated.
It should keep in mind that the transferring and conversion process should be done in the same manner of accuracy and should ensure that it captures the same content as the original physical medical record. This is why the process of transferring these data to electronic medical record is time consuming and very expensive. Electronic medical records should be accurate and same as the original medical record because the original record are being disposed as soon as they were processed and transferred in to EMR.
All electronic medical records are subject form periodic and constant transferring, conversion, and migration to make sure that the formats as well as the record should remain accessible over a period. They should be accessible always because these are records of patient’s life span where medical professionals always tend to check during medical treatment or even just medical consultations.
The people who are responsible for the management of the electronic medical record should always upgrade the data and create backups. This is to protect the data from being obsolete and from degradation.
