What is an Electronic Medical Record?
An electronic medical record is a patient medical record that is computer based. It was founded to make patient’s data available by clinical staff easily at any location. A patient’s record contains any allergic and drug reactions. Electronic medical records are very reliable because they claim to be accurate and complete. Insurance companies are processing them. A typical electronic medical record or EMR usually have clinical notes of doctors, prescriptions of medicine to patients, and scheduling. They even have the ability to view and send laboratory exams to laboratories.
Today, electronic medical record or EMR have expanded and included other relevant medical information. A system called “practice medical system” is a medical office that functions in supporting and surrounding the electronic medical record. The only disadvantage of electronic medical record or EMR system is the potential of permitting medical record privacy invasion. However, with the advance technology today, security and privacy of electronic medical record now days are as secure as online banking records.
Electronic medical records or EMR are under medical informatics, which are combination of computation and keeping computer science and medical record. Medical Record institute distinguishes three levels of Electronic HealthCare Record or EHCR. These are “automated medical record”, “computerized medical record”, “electronic medical record”, “electronic patient record”, and “electronic health record”.
The concept of electronic medical records include two primary categories. These are the imaged or scanned records and the born digital records.
